COVID- 19 EDITION
HAND IN HAND
IDENTITIES -THE POLESTAR
This project was designed during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. I chose to embrace this once in a life time experience by only using what I had at home to build a material palette and models out of recycled material. The hand in hand project was inspired by the view from my window upon the only outside contact I had for months, the Parisian balconies from the building facing my own. Two artefacts were chosen - a notebook bought in Kortrijk and my father's Montblanc pen - to imagine a shelf and a space that would bring together my home city and Kortrijk.

THE SHELF
A portable shelf was designed according to the chosen artefacts. A notebook bought in Kortrijk and a pen inherited from my father were put together in this small package to go around the city and sketch. It was imagined for a time after lockdown when movement would be aloud again. All the materials were recycled from food packaging, unfortunately none of the chosen materials were available for use. The polestar to sell this shelf and guide people into the city of Kortrijk was also a mix between both the cites and both the artefacts.

A PUBLIC SPACE
As the site is situated in Kotrijk, I chose to use its position to guide people to the city through lines on its main wall. Paris was added to the project with the addition of resin columns filled with the colors of Paris I could see from my window. I thus chose to create a public installation of columns and a polestar at the back of the site, connecting to the shopping arcade. Because it is a public space, light has an important role to play.
